Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know
What are the GST rates in India?
India has five GST slabs: 0% (essential goods), 5% (basic necessities like packaged food, transport), 12% (standard goods like business travel, dairy), 18% (most services including restaurants, IT, telecom), and 28% (luxury items like cars, tobacco, cement).
What is the difference between GST inclusive and exclusive?
GST exclusive means the price shown does not include GST — you add GST on top (e.g., ₹1,000 + 18% = ₹1,180 total). GST inclusive means the price already includes GST — you extract it from the total (e.g., ₹1,180 already contains ₹180 GST).
What is CGST, SGST, and IGST?
CGST (Central GST) and SGST (State GST) each equal half the GST rate — charged on sales within the same state. IGST (Integrated GST) equals the full GST rate — charged on sales between different states. For 18% GST: intra-state = 9% CGST + 9% SGST; inter-state = 18% IGST.
Who needs to pay GST?
Businesses with annual turnover exceeding ₹20 lakh (₹10 lakh in special category states) must register for GST and collect it from customers. E-commerce sellers must register regardless of turnover.
Is GST applicable on exports?
No, exports are zero-rated under GST (0% GST). Exporters can claim a refund of input tax credit on taxes paid for goods/services used in exports.
